I have been considering this tree for my front yard. We had a california pepper (correct name is Brazilian Pepper, who knew?) that we planted 20 yrs ago. It grew lovely adn tall until last June when branches started dropping and about 1/2 of the tree snapped off at different times. Interior rot was the diagnosis, and more breakage predicted. We were traumatized to loose this tree and want no more such arbor disasters. Is an African Sumac a good choice for my zone 8 Bakersfield, CA home?
