Photo - New Zealand Flax (Phormium tenax 'Maori Chief')

'Maori Chief' is one of my favorite varieties of New
Zealand Flax.  These drought tolerant perennials are
also great container plants.

  1. When I moved to my house 8 years ago, there was a tiny piece of this plant left abandoned in the garden, I had no idea what it was but kept it and it has now reached over 5ft tall, I love the different colours on the sword-like leaves. To my amazement this year it has developed two sturdy long shafts with flower-heads - I cannot wait for them to open and reveal there colours - I will post a photo when they have bloomed :-)
