This variety of Bougainvillea grows everywhere in San Diego.
This shrub is great for year round color as long as you plant
it in a sunny location. 'San Diego Red' can reach 12-15 feet wide
and loves to sprawl over a fence as seen in this photo.
Bougainvilleas are drought tolerant but they are also frost sensitive.
A sustained chill of under 30 degrees will kill the top of the plant,
but not the whole plant. Bougainvilleas are also thorny, so use carefully.
